Are you prepared?

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is predicting an active 2021 hurricane season.  Forecasters predict a 60% chance of above normal season expecting  a likely range of 13 to 20 named storms with 3 to 5 major hurricanes in the 2021 hurricane season.  Download the FREE hurricane preparedness checklist and incorporate it into your hurricane emergency kit.  Create a plan now while there is time.

Storm Names and their historical damages

The 2021 list of storm names rotates every 6 years. The only time the list names changes is if the storm was severe, deadly or caused major damage, then that “storm name” is retired and is replaced with a new one by the WMO (World Meteorological Organization).

Know and Mitigate Your Risk.

Are you and your loved ones safe?  The risk to you and your property vary depending on where in Florida you are located at the time of a storm.

This is the one of the many reasons (perhaps the most important reason) you should prepare a hurricane storm emergency plan.  The time to prepare is now before a storm hits and before the mad crowds rush to last minute preparations.

21 Day Nightmare.

In 1992, I lived through one of the worst experiences of my life, when hurricane Andrew ripped through South Florida. I was stationed as an Airmen in Homestead Air Force Base and was tasked with after storm recovery measures to help the thousands who where left without power, food or water.  Most had lost all their possession. I literally witness a thriving neighborhood get sent back to the stone age in a matter of hours. It took 21 days to get back to some level of normalcy. What struck me the most is how so many where so ill unprepared.

Since then I have lived through many a hurricane and tropical storm living in South Florida and the best advice I can give to anyone is to be ready and prepare. Have a family plan, a bug out survival kit and make sure your entire family knows the plan.

"Nothing is certain except death and taxes"

I wish to spare you and your family any hardship, pain, property loss or worse but in this life as Benjamin Franklin once put it “nothing is certain except death and taxes”

The only thing we can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best

Over the years I have been asked by many people a bunch of questions related to surviving a hurricane. This year I decided to post these questions and hopefully help you and your family survive the 2021 hurricane season.

So with some friends, we prepared an action list of before, during and after a hurricane steps to take. It’s free to download and share.

This is a general guideline to help prepare you and your family for the eventuality of a storm and best chances for a speedy recovering.  It does not replace a cohesive personal plan specific to the area you might be in.  Adhere to local agency warnings and guidelines.

Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.
